Kyzylorda powerlifters set two world records

Nurlan Yeshmakhanov and Yerbol Nauanov from Kyzylorda city in the south of Kazakhstan have set two world records at the Junior World Powerlifting Championship held in Poland, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to Laura Shongalova, press secretary of South Kazakhstan Oblast’s Department of Tourism, Physical Education and Sport. The press secretary said that Nurlan Yeshmakhanov became the overall world champion in -105kg weight division. “He set the world record, by lifting the total of 1001 kilograms in three events: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Yeshmakhanov set a world record in squat by lifting 401 kilograms. He lifted 270 kilograms in bench press and 330 kilograms in deadlift,” she said on Friday, September 7. Another Kyzylorda resident Yerbol Nauanov became the world champion in -83kg weight division. He lifted 855 kilograms in total: 320kg in squat, 255kg in bench press (world record) and 280kg in deadlift. Another Kazakhstan powerlifter Yerlan Smagulov took a 4th place at the Championship. “Ulan Anuar from Kyzylorda won bronze in -74kg weight division by lifting 772.5 kilograms in total: 300 kilograms in squat, 192.5 kilograms in bench press and 280 kilograms in deadlift. According to Shongalova, Roman Kovalev, the oblast’s powerlifting head coach, was training the weightlifters for the World Championship. Powerlifters from 40 countries participated in the Junior World Powerlifting Championship that was held in Poland. 192 young men and juniors and 108 young women were competing for gold in the Polish city of Szczyrk on August 28 – September 2.
