Kukushkin and Voskoboeva got into main tournament of US Open

Mikhail Kukushkin and Galina Voskoboeva will represent Kazakhstan in the last tennis tournament of US Open series this season, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Director of Almaty branch of Kazakhstan Tennis Federation Marat Baimukhametov. “Kukushkin was ranked high even before this week, and this guaranteed him a pass into the main tournament. Voskoboeva will probably pass the qualification thanks to her successful performance at the last tournament in Toronto, where she reached quarter-finals earning 225 points for the updated WTA rating and is now ranked 87th,” Baimukhametov said. The main women's stage of the US Open that will start on August 29 is planned for 128 tennis players. 88 of them come from the top of the WTA rating. The others will be selected in the Qualification Rounds that will start on August 22. Besides, several passes to the tournament will be given to tennis players by the organizers at their own discretion. It is quite likely that Kazakhstan tennis player Yaroslava Shvedova will take part in the US Open Qualification. Participation of Zarina Diyas has still not been confirmed. Mikhail Kukushkin has a sure spot in the main men's tournament thanks to his 62nd position in the ATP rating. Andrey Golubev, who is currently ranked 101st, will have to take part in the Qualification games. The US Open organizers, however, might give him a so-called Wild Card. Most probably, other Kazakhstan players, Yuriy Schukin and Yevgeniy Korolev will not go to the US Open.
