Kazakh weightlifter and Olympic champion of 2012 London Games Zulfiya Chinshanlo has hauled a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championship that is taking place in Almaty, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. The Kazakh weightlifter competes in the 53 kilos weight league.
Starting with 95 kilos, Chinshanlo beat her personal record by lifting 98 kilos in the snatch in her third attempt. However, her main opponent Hsu Shu-ching from Taiwan lifted 99 kilos, and Chinese weightlifter Li Yajun snatched 96 kilos after two unsuccessful attempts to lift 100 kilos. As a result, Kazakhstan’s weightlifter got the second place.
But in the clean and jerk, Kazakhstan's Chinshanlo came out first and also set a new world record twice by lifting 133 kilos and a minute later another 134 kilos. The Taiwanese weightlifter first tried 125 kilos, but then in the second attempt changed it to 119 kilos. Thus, Chinshanlo's total result was 232 kilograms, while Taiwanese Hsu Shu-ching lifted a total of 218 kilos and Chinese Li Yajun – 214 kilos.
“I am very happy now,” three-times World Champion Zulfiya Chinshanlo said, “I am happy that I managed to win at home. I thank the audience for the support that helped me a lot. After the defeat at Asian Games, I was angry with myself and told myself that I must win the World Championship. I am grateful to my husband who helped me and of course, to my coaches Aleksey Ni and Viktor Ni.” For now, Zulfiya Chinshanlo plans to take some rest and then start training for the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
As for the silver prizewinner of the championship Hsu Shu-ching from Taiwan, the weightlifter is satisfied with her results, but in future, she plans to beat Chinshanlo’s record. “In general, I am satisfied with my result,” she said, “Tiredness after the Asian Games showed itself. My physical shape leaves much to be desired. Now I am planning to train and beat the record of Chinshanlo. Overall, I liked Almaty and Kazakhstan. The organization of the tournament was at a good level."
Meanwhile, at the World Weightlifting Championship in Almaty, Kazakh weightlifter Arleigh Chauntea ended up in the sixth place in the 56 kilos weight category. 22-year-old Margarita Yeliseyeva of Kazakhstan who competed in the 48 kilos weight league received zero points after she failed her three attempts in the snatch.
