Kazakhstan's No.1 and World No.33 Zarina Diyas has defeated World No.10 Andrea Petkovic in the second round of the WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. The prize pool of the tournament is 2.2 million dollars.
In the second round that lasted 57 minutes, 21-year-old Diyas faced 27-year-old Andrea Petkovic from Germany.
The Kazakh tennis player clinched the first set with a score of 7:5.
In the second set, which lasted 45 minutes, Zarina Diyas beat the German tennis professional scoring 6:3.
Throughout her career, it was the second time Diyas won over a tennis player from Top 10 of the WTA rating with the first one dating back to 2010, when she defeated a top seed and then World No. 7 Serbian Jelena Janković in the second round of the Premier-level Kremlin Cup in Moscow.
in the third round, Kazakhstan's Diyas faced Russian No.2 and World No.9 Ekaterina Makarova. She lost to the Russian superior in two sets 6:3, 6:4 after spending 1 hour and 44 minutes at the court. Diyas made 11 double mistakes against 3 of her Russian rival.
