Two-times World Champion and London 2012 Olympic Champion Svetlana Podobedova of Kazakhstan is unable to take part in the World Weightlifting Championship that will take place in Almaty on November 8-16, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
According to the head coach of Kazakhstan’s national weightlifting team Aleksey Ni, the Kazakh athlete was in an excellent shape and had a good chance of winning a gold medal in her 75 kilos weight category. However, Podobedova got an injury on November 5. She was diagnosed with a partial rгpture of muscles in the upper third of her left thigh. The injury requires one month of rehabilitation. This happened days before the championship ss Podobedova was unable to take part in the event.
Anna Nurmukhambetova who came fifth in the 69kg weight category at the 2012 Summer Olympics replaced Svetlana Podobedova in the 75 kilos weight league.
The World Championship is taking place in Almaty at Baluan Sholak Palace of Culture and Sports located at the crossing of Abay and Baitursinov streets.
Eight reigning Olympic champions are participating in the event and three of them are from Kazakhstan: gold-winners of the 2012 London Olympics Zulfiya Chinshanlo, Maiya Maneza and Ilya Ilyin.
The ticket price ranges between 500 ($2.8) and 15,000 tenge (nearly $83). Tickets can be purchased at the Baluan Sholak Palace of Culture and Sports, Meloman stores and also online via ticketon.kz.
