Kazakhstan's Poltoranin wins 2nd place at World Cup in Finland

Kazakhstani skier Alexey Poltoranin continues the season by successfully claiming the second place at the World Cup 15 km classic in Lahti, Finland, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.


Kazakhstani skier Alexey Poltoranin continues the season by successfully claiming the second place at the World Cup 15 km classic in Lahti, Finland, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Poltaranin lost the first place by +3 seconds to Italy's Francesco De Fabiani who crossed the finish line in 34:51.2. Sami Jauhojaervi from Finland landed on the third place (+4.6 seconds).

“I am happy to be back on the podium. I was not satisfied with my performance at the World Championships. Today was a difficult race. I was in the lead in the halfway of the race but then I could not keep the speed,” Poltoranin said after the race.

Earlier, Poltoranin took part the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme, Italy. The Kazakhstani took the 8th place in the 9 km F Pursuit of the World Cup Stage loosing by +2.59,7. Norwegian Olympic champion Martin Johnsrud Sundby won the competition in 29:27.4. Another Norwegian Petter Northug Jr (+34,5) and a Russian skier Evgeniy Belov(+51,1) took the second and the third places respectively.

In Toblach, Poltoranin showed his best result in the 10 km classic winning the first place. Later, in Val di Fiemme, Poltoranin took the second place in the 15 km classic.
