Kazakhstani tennis player Putintseva defeats Germany's No 1 at Nürnberger Versicherungscup

Kazakhstani tennis player Yuliya Putintseva has lost to Karin Knapp in the quarterfinals of the Nürnberger Versicherungscup taking place in Germany, Tengrinews reports.


Kazakhstani tennis player Yuliya Putintseva has lost to Karin Knapp in the quarterfinals of the Nürnberger Versicherungscup taking place in Germany, Tengrinews reports.

In the first round, the 20 y.o. representing Kazakhstan defeated the #1 tennis player at the tournament Andrea Petkovic from Germany with 5:0. Putintseva is ranked 105th, while Petkovic is the 10th in the WTA ranking. The German tennis player had to retire from the game due to a right thigh injury. 

"It happened in my second service game. I ran for a drop shot it stretched inside my thigh," she said. "It was quite strong, so I couldn't run anymore. I just couldn't move normally anymore. I can even feel it when I'm walking now. I don't know exactly why it happened, but everything was okay before that," Petkovic said via WTA.

In the following second round, Putintseva faced Kiki Berten from the Netherlands. Putintseva won the 3-hour game 6:4, 5:7, 7:5.

In the quarterfinals, Putintseva faced Karin Knapp from Italy. Unfortunately, the Kazakhstani tennis player lost to Knapp in two sets 2:6, 4:6.

Kazakhstan’s #1 tennis player Zarina Diyas lost to Alison Riske at the Internationaux de Strasbourg in France with 7:5, 4:6, 6:1.
