Kazakhstan wrestlers win 2nd place at Takhti Cup in Iran

Kazakhstan Freestyle wrestlers have gained the 2nd place at the 34th Takhti International Free-Style Wrestling Cup in Tehran, Iran, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. The tournament took place on Febraury 6-7, 2014 at Tehran’s Haftom-e Tir Hall. Kazakhstan Freestyle wrestler Daulet Niyazbekov won gold for his team in the -61kg weight category. He beat Vasily Fedorshin from Ukraine in the final bout. Another Kazakhstan wrestler Daulet Shabanbai reached the finals in the heaviest -125kg weight category, but lost to Iranian Parviz Hadi in the finals. Kazakhstan wrestlers won three medals on the first day of the tournament: Rassul Kaliev took silver and Tsonte Baramidze and Dauren Zhumagaziyev earned bronze medals. The Iranian national team won the first place at the Takhti Cup with 74 points. Kazakhstan took the second place with 54 points and the third place went to Ukraine with 21 points. Athletes from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Tunisia, Hungary, Georgia, Japan, North Korea, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Turkey, Romania, Armenia and Iran participated in the tournament. The Takhti Cup tourney is held in memory of Iranian famous wrestler Gholamreza Takhti, who was found dead in a hotel room in Tehran in 1968. Takhti won a gold medal at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956. He also won silver at the Helsinki Olympics 1952 and Rome Olympics 1960. In addition, Takhti became the World Champion in 1959 in Tehran and in Yokohama in 1961.
