Kazakhstan won Thailand in Fed Cup

Kazakhstan women’s tennis team of Pervak and Shvedova won over Thailand in the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group 1 match, Vesti.kz reports. After Kseniya Pervak won the first singles match and Yaroslava Shvedova lost the second singles match against Thailand, the Kazakhstan team had no choice but to win the doubles to win in the group. Yury Karlov, the captain of Kazakhstan's women's tennis team, decided to set forth Galina Voskoboyeva and Yaroslava Shvedova for the doubles, in spite of the fact that Shvedova was clearly experiencing problems with her back. The Kazakhstan duo played against Thailand’s Noppawan Lertcheewakarn / Varatchaya Wongteanchai duo and this was a tough match for the Kazakhstan tennis professionals. Shvedova and Voskoboyeva lost 2:6 in the first set but managed to turn the match around and won the following sets 6:2 and 6:0. By winning over India and Thailand Kazakhstan secured a victory in its subgroup and will now continue fighting for a pass into the Group 2 of the Fed Cup. Kazakhstan will be playing against the winner of the second subgroup that includes Chinese Taipei, China, South Korea and Uzbekistan.
