Kazakhstan wins 5 medals at Universiade in Italy

The Kazakhstan men's national skiing team has gain the second gold medal for Kazakhstan at the Winter Universiade in Trentino, Italy, Vesti.kz reports. The athletes became leaders in the Cross Country Relay of 4x10km and completed the distance in 43 minutes and 3.6 seconds. The Russian team was only one second behind, and the 3d place was taken by the Finland's national team that was 27.1 seconds behind. Kazakhstan woman's national team managed to win two bronze medals in the cross-country relay of 3 and 5km at the Universiade. The race's gold went to the Ukrainian skiers, who covered the distance in 42 minutes and 15.8 seconds. The Swedуs won the second place being 3.1 seconds behind the winners. Kazakhstan's skiers Tatyana Osipova, Olga Mandrika and Marina Matrosova lost 19.6 seconds to Ukraine and won the third place. Several days earlier Tatyana Osipova won the first gold for the Kazakhstan national team in the 10km skiathlon at the championship in Italy. And another skier - Mark Starostin - brought a silver medal to Kazakhstan by winning the 15km men's skiathlon competition. He was racing against Russian skiers Raul Shakirzyanov (gold) and Pavel Syulatov (bronze) in the final part of the distance. Kazakhstan got its last Universiade medal - silver - on December 21 when its ice hockey team lost to Canada in the final. As a result Kazakhstan has the total of 5 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and is in the 15 place by medal count. Russia is the leader of the raking with 50 medals (15 gold, 16 silver, 19 bronze). Poland is in the second place with 23 medals (10 gold, 10 silver, 3 bronze) and South Korea is in the third place with 24 medals (8 gold, 9 silver, 7 silver). The pre-Olympic Winter Universiade in Italy started of December 11 and finished on December 21, 2013. The next Universiade will take place in Spanish Granada on 2015. The 2017 Universiade will be held in Kazakhstan's Almaty and in 2019 it will take place in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk.
