Kazakhstan youth have been taking part in the Universiades since 1993. During 10 years they have won 36 medals. The most successful was the performance at Thailand Universiade in 2007 when our team became 11th among 165 countries. Kazakhstan team plans to be in the first ten this year. This result will promote Almaty as an official candidate to host the World Winter Universiade in 2017. According to Kairat Zakiriyanov, Kazakh Tourism and Sport Academy Director, the World Universiade is the second complex competition in order of importance after the Olympic Games. A victory in this competition is of similar honor and requires similar diligence as do the Olympic Games.
