Kazakhstan’s National Paralympic Team has won 10 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze medals at the 10th IWAS (The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation) World Junior Games 2014 held at Stoke Mandeville Sports Stadium in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom on August 3-8, 2014, Tengrinews reports citing Kazakhstan’s Paralympic Committee.
Kazakhstan’s National Paralympic Team has won 10 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze medals at the 10th IWAS (The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation) World Junior Games 2014 held at Stoke Mandeville Sports Stadium in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom on August 3-8, 2014, Tengrinews reports citing Kazakhstan’s Paralympic Committee.
The National Paralympic Committee of Kazakhstan along with Samruk-Kazyna National Wealth Fund supporting the team, put forth 23 athletes to represent Kazakhstan in four sports out of the total seven: athletics, powerlifting, swimming and table tennis.
The results of Kazakhstan's team are as following:
Athletics - 1 silver and 5 bronze medals.
Powerlifting - 1 silver medal.
Swimming – 9 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Table tennis – 1 gold and 1 bronze medal.
Athletes between the ages of 14 and 22 were eligible for the Games that provide a valuable experience for them on their pathway to the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. This year, 350 athletes from 32 countries took part in the tournament. Athletes competed in archery, athletics, race running, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis and wheelchair fencing.
The IWAS World Junior Games are held annually. Last year, it was held in the city of Mayaguez in Puerto Rico.
