Sports Scientific Research Institute will be created in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Talgat Yermegiyayev, head of Sports and Physical Education Agency of Kazakhstan. “We need to have own own sports institute for scientific research to increase competitiveness of our sportsmen and support the sports image of our country. This issue has been on our agenda for six years yet,” Talgat Yermegiyayev said to the members of the Senate. "It is necessary to establish Sports Institute for Scientific Research and to gather a strong scientific team there. This team will work out and introduce new methods of athletes training, including innovative one,” he explained. “We have assigned a work group and the National Budget Commission has already allocated funds for scientific and research works. This is the first step in establishment of the Institute. I believe that our proposal will be supported next year. And I hope that next year we will have the funds to open the much needed Scientific Research Institute,” Talgat Yermegiyayev said. According to the head of Sports and Physical Education Agency 450 million tenge ($3.1 million) is required for the first stage of Institute's creation. Yermegiyayev brought up this issue when speaking about Kazakhstan athletes training prior to the forthcoming London Summer Olympic Games. “We plan to gain more than 100 Olympic spots and to perform in the forthcoming London Olympic Games better than we performed in Beijing Olympics. So far we have gained 64 Olympic spots. We are going to win medals in the sports where we are traditionally strong: boxing, weight-lifting, free-style wrestling, Greko-Roman wrestling, women wrestling, judo, track and field athletics, cycling, shooting sports,” Agency's head said during the Senate's Social and Cultural Development Committee session. Talgat Yermegiyayev believes that the Agency has provided all the necessary conditions for the athletes to perform well in the Olympic Games. “We have engaged the best foreign experts and signed temporary contracts with them. We have also signed contracts with candidates for Olympic Games teams in 21 sports. (…) We've got the resources and perspectives to show the best sports results. Especially thanks to our talented athletes,” he said. According to him the victorious athletes will be awarded with prize-money for their high results thanks to the support of the President and government. Kazakhstan national teams have already started training for the 30th Olympic Games. The event will be held in London on July 27 – August 12. 302 sets of medals will be raffled of in 39 sports.
