The Opening Ceremony of flag bearers took place in Sochi, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. Yerlan Omarov participating in Nordic Skiing was the bearer of the Kazakhstan flag at the ceremony. The ceremony was taking place for three days as the main square of the Olympic village is not large enough to accommodate the large number of Paralympic athletes all at once. Kazakhstan participated in the Opening Ceremony on the third day along with athletes from Iran, Finland and Armenia. The Mayor of the Olympic village and the 6th times Champion of the Paralympics Sergei Shylov gave a speech of welcome and encouragement. The participants received Russian hats as memory gifts. A total of 45 flags were raised at the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi. For the first time, five athletes are representing Kazakhstan this year: Alexander Kolyadin, Elena Mazurenko, Zhanyl Baltabayeva, Kairat Kanafin and Erlan Omarov. The Opening Ceremony took place on March 7.
