Kazakhstan expedition reached the South Pole

Kazakhstan moto-expedition reached the South Pole for the first time, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the crew members’ blogs. “Kazakhstan flag will be installed on the South Pole on December 16 at 12:00 a.m. Astana time. Then we will head back to Novolazarevskaya station and home,” the adventurers posted in Twitter. They added that the 100th anniversary of the first trip to the South Pole was celebrated yesterday, December 13. The participants of the expedition are making meteorological observations, sampling ice, snow and air, performing geodesic works and measuring radiation background. According to the organizers, the expedition does not only have a scientific purpose; it will play a significant role in raising awareness about Kazakhstan in the world. Nur Otan party and Kazakh Geographic Society are the organizers of the project with a support of Astana city administration.
