Yelsiyar Kanagatov, deputy chairman of the Sport and Physical Education Agency, expects the national team of Kazakhstan to win at least two medals at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to the official website of Serik Akhmetov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. “The goal of our national team is to perform better than at the Vancouver Olympics, including in terms of the number of spots and the number of events our athletes will take part in. We’ve set a task to win at least two medals of different merits at the Sochi Olympic Games,” Kanagatov said. According to the deputy chairman, the Agency has great expectations of those athletes who have already won World Championships and different Cup tournaments. “Сross-country skier Alexey Poltoranin is the athlete most likely to win an Olympic medal. He produced good and steady results at the World Championship and Cup competitions. He is the athlete, who is expected to win Sochi Olympic Games medals,” he added. The 27th Winter Olympic Games are going to be held in Sochi, Russia, on February 7-23, 2014. 98 sets of Olympic medals in 15 different sport events will be up for grabs at the tournament. Qualifying tournaments will be held until January 2014. Kazakhstan athletes are expected to gain 40 spots for the Sochi Olympic Games.
