International University Sport Federation's (FISU) Commission is satisfied with preparations made by Almaty authorities for the Winter Universiade-2017, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Kayrat Zakiryanov, head of Kazakhstan University sports. “The Commission visited Almaty yesterday. They checked the biathlon track, Medeu skating rink, Shymbulak resort and ski jumping facility. The commission also met with the prime-minister, who said that if Kazakhstan wins the right to host the competition, it would become the best Universiade in the history of its existence. The commission highly evaluated the preparedness of the sports facilities and infrastructure for hosting of the competition,” Zakiryanov said. The Universiade hosting city will be chosen on November 29 in Brussels. The single rival-city of Almaty is the Italian city of Trentino. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayevsupported the idea of holding the Universiade in Almaty. Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that Kazakhstan might give up on its bid to host the Universiade, because the preparation for the international competition of such a level would be very costly.
