IBF middleweight champion Davix Lemieux talked about a possible fight against WBA Super, IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in his interview with The Ropes radio, Tengrinews reports.
Earlier, Golovkin challenged Lemiuex to fight him "right now and not in the future" via Tweeter.
In response to Golovkin, the Canadian boxer said that he was, too, interested in facing the undefeated champion from Kazakhstan.
"Fighting Triple G is in my plans. It is not someone I want to avoid. It is someone I want to fight down the line. It is 100% for sure. But it is someone I am not going to fight under his time and jurisdiction. I will fight him under my time and jurisdiction. I don't need Triple G. But I will give the fans what they want to see. (&hellip) I am not scared of him nor am I ducking him. There is a pattern to what we do before I face Triple G. I have just become the IBF champion of the world. Now I am going to take some time off and take a vacation. But I have already said I am going to fight Triple G. It is for sure. But it is not maybe next fight; it is maybe I don't know when. But it is going to happen sooner or later. If everything is negotiated properly I would love to fight for sure. I am not worried about it. Things have to be negotiated well and planned out. Somebody can't just go out and say I want to fight this guy. This doesn&rsquot happen that way. It is a very serious sport," the Canadian said.
Lemieux added that if all deals were right he was ready to face Golovkin. The Canadian boxer said that Golovkin calling him out via tweeter was not logical. "It has to be in proper time and with proper money and investment. But it will happen," Lemieux said.
Some doubt Golovkin's undefeated status because he has not had big fights yet. But Lemieux believes Golovkin is rightfully called one of the best middleweights.
"Whether his opponents were weak or not, Golovkin is a good fighter. There is no question about it. He is a very good fighter and he deserves to be where he is. But people need to relax and get of his back, because there are a lot of great fighters out there. Middleweight has always been an exciting category with great fighters. We have Andy Lee, Peter Quillin and Miguel Cotto. And now we have me. It is an exciting category. When I am going to fight him, it will be the biggest fight of his career. No doubt about it. It will happen. Everything will happen in due time. You can&rsquot go out screaming names like a little kid," the IBF champion said.
Lemiuex's promoter Oscar de la Hoya said the boxer wanted to return in the ring after retirement - De La Hoya wanted to face the winner of the possible Golovkin-Maywether fight.
But The Golden Boy's boxer believes De La Hoya should not return but give way to younger fighters.
"I love De La Hoya. He is a crazy guy. He is full of energy. He is the great champion. But let me do the fighting, De La Hoya. Let me beat Golovkin. It is my time. And it is me who is going to be the machine to beat this guy. De La Hoya is a great guy. But he should let younger guys do the fight. It is my time. With proper negotiations I will do the fighting," Lemieux said.
