"I hope (that it happens next) this is the fight that I want. This would be a very good fight for the fans, for television. I said that I want a pay-per-view fight this year. I want fights like Cotto, Canelo, Chavez. Cotto is the WBC champion. I want to get all of the titles at middleweight," Golovkin said.
Cotto was considering a fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, KOs 31), but the fight has never gone beyond the negotiations phase with Cotto’s team unable to strike an agreement before the set deadline. Meanwhile, Golovkin who holds the WBC Interim title has a good chance of finally challenging Cotto as his mandatory opponent.
On February 21, Triple G from Kazakhstan faces Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12KO's) in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Murray is training hard in Johannesburg to face Golovkin. “We’ve put Golovkin’s face on the punch bag. It’s there every day when we go; I’m sick of the sight of his face to be honest. I’ve done camps in the past when I’ve gone away for a week then gone home at weekends but nothing like this,” Murray told Dailymail.co.uk.
