British boxer Carl Frotch, holder of WBA and IBF super middleweight titles, posted a poll for the fans on his official Facebook page to determine the most popular opponent.
Almost 14 thousand fans liked a Froch-Golovkin fight. A Froch-Chavez fight gathered 12 thousand likes. As for a Froch-DeGale, the possible fight had only a couple of thousand votes. Disregarding the votes, Froch-team is now preparing to organize a fight against James DeGale.
“Carl Froch against Julio Cesar Chavez in Las Vegas now looks unlikely and we are looking for Carl to defend his WBA and IBF titles in London, probably the O2 Arena, against James DeGale in February,” Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn stated.
Earlier, Hearn, too, as many other promoters and trainers said no to a fight against Golovkin due to low marketability of the Kazakh boxer. Then why would Froch even bother to post Golovkin in his poll?
“Just swerve Golovkin like the plague. He punches like a mule. I don’t need to be in with him. Dangerous fight,” Froch said creating much controversy around his statement in the media.
