Golovkin responds to Nazarbayev's letter: What it means to be a fighter from Kazakhstan

The middleweight WBA (Super), IBO и WBC (Interim) champion Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan has thanked President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev for his letter after the fight against Martin Murray, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of Akorda.


The middleweight WBA (Super), IBO и WBC (Interim) champion Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan has thanked President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev for his letter after the fight against Martin Murray, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of Akorda.

Nazarbayev congratulated Golovkin on the victory over his British opponent in Monte Carlo on February 21. Golovkin TKOed Murray in the 11th round and retained his middleweight titles. This makes Triple G the contender for the full WBC middleweight title held by Miguel Cotto. 

In response for the letter, Golovkin thanked the President of Kazakhstan for his kind words.

“I have strong feelings of pride, patriotism and responsibility representing of my motherland in the international ring and showing the world what it means to be a sportsman and a fighter from Kazakhstan. I am sincerely glad to be able to make you and all our countrymen happy with my victories. I am happy to be useful for my country by making small contributions to the development of boxing in Kazakhstan,” Golovkin wrote.

The boxer stressed the importance of the support from Nazarbayev and all Kazakhstanis for his victories.
