WBA Super, IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, 32, gave the final press conference on February 19 before the fight against Martin Murray, 32, in Monte Carlo, Monaco, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
“Of course, my opponent Martin is a great fighter. He is a strong guy. I respect him and his team. I see looks good and strong. First, I want to thank Peter Nelson, Mauricio Sulaiman, Jan Lois, Rodney, and of course, Michael. It is great to see you gentlemen. I am very happy to be here again. I love Monaco. I am 100% ready for a big and dramatic show. I promise a good show on Saturday,” Golovkin welcomed everyone during the official press conference.
Golovkin admitted that the upcoming fight would be a big test not only for Martin Murray but for himself too. Triple G promised “a great show, not just an easy fight”.
In turn, Murray said that he would be “as nasty as anybody else” in the fight against Golovkin.
“Some of Golovkin’s opponents might give him too much respect, and they might be all smiles and handshakes at the press conference, but that’s just stupid. They obviously didn’t grow up where I grew up. I respect his ability as a fighter, and I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but this is a fight and I can be just as nasty as anybody when I have to be,” Murray said.
