WBA (Super) and The Ring super middleweight champion Andre Ward has finally solved legal issues with Goossen Promotions that dragged for a year. Ward has recently signed up with Jay Z’s Roc Nations.

Continuation

After the Wilder-Stiverne fight, Ward talked about future fights and a possibility of facing Gennady Golovkin, an undefeated superstar boxer from Kazakhstan. After a year hiatus, the super middleweight champion hopes to get in the ring sometime in March or April. To the question whether he considers Golovkin a hype job, Ward stated that the Kazakhstani is “the real deal”.

“Some people ask me if [Golovkin] is a hype job. I think he is absolutely not. Anybody who becomes a silver medalist, anybody who comes from the amateur system that he came out of do not get that for not being a real deal. So I think he is the real deal in terms of his pedigree. But I do think that, you know, he gets a lot of passes on the media at this stage in his career without having fought the best. It is as simple as that. Other guys would not get that. (…) Sometimes, from other stand point there is extra hype. When you start hailing the guy this and that without having a resume is tough thing to do. That’s [true] for me. That's for him. That's for anybody. I think for anybody to get into the Hall of Fame or even to be called great – I do not think any of us is great right now - there are only handful of great fighters in this sport that are active. (…) None of us has done anything to be called great. You got to look at the resume. (…) But as far as his pedigree, he has got there for sure. A fight between me and him would be great,” Ward told Fighthype.com.
