A fight between WBA Super, IBO and WBC Interim Gennady Golovkin and a Mexican former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has been named one of the Top 5 most anticipated fights in 2015 according to Sports.ru, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
Golovkin and Chavez’s teams tried to organize the fight back in Summer 2014 but couldn't due to issues the Mexican boxer had with his promotion company Top Rank. The issues with Top Rank will hinder Chavez's PPV fight with Carl Froch in March.
Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) gathers hordes of fans for his three victorious fights in 2014. But the Kazakhstani has not gotten a real big fight yet. Meanwhile, Chavez (48-1-1, 32 KOs) had only one fight last year. Managers of both fighters noted difficulties in finding suitable opponents.
Golovkin said earlier that he would aim for a PPV fight in 2015. Chavez, too, does not mind going PPV after his fight against Martinez gathered half a million viewers.
The Kazakhstani undefeated boxer has a growing number of fans in Mexico. After winning the WBC Interim middleweight title in a fight against a Mexican boxer Marco Antonio Rubio, Golovkin toured Mexico and visited various public venues.
Earlier, Mario Ruiz posted a photo on his iammarioruiz Instagram page announcing a new track Good Boy Killer dedicated to Gennady Golovkin.
His next fight against Martin Murray is scheduled to February 21 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
