WBA (Super) and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) from Kazakhstan has been named as a candidate for the Best Boxer title by Sports.ru, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
Online voting on the Russian sports portal will choose the Best Boxer. The list includes Floyd Mayweather Jr, who recently defended his title against Marcos Maidana by a unanimous decision.
Bernard Hopkins and Manny Pacquiao are also on the list. The voting is open on Sports.ru.
Earlier, Golovkin made it into the Top-10 best boxers in all weight categories by Boxrec.com. Bleacher Report named the unbeaten Kazakhstani boxer among the best boxers.
At the moment, Golovkin has gathered 42% of votes followed by Mayweather who has 20% of votes. So far, 11,429 people have voted.
Golovkin’s next fight will take place on October 18 against Marco Antonio Rubio in Los Angeles.
