WBA (Super), IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is among candidates for the Fighter of the Year 2014 along with Manny Pacquiao, Sergey Kovalev, Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. Triple G leads with 68.7% of votes. Pac Man follows with 25.2%. Kovalev has 3% of votes. Voting is open on Bleach Report.
Golovkin had three title defence fights in 2014. On February 1, Golovkin defeated Osumanu Adama in Monte Carlo. In July 26, Triple G of Kazakhstan TKOed Aussie boxer Daniel Geale in the 3rd round. Golovkin’s last opponent Marco Antonio Rubio from Mexico touched the canvas in the 2nd round in Carson, California.
Meanwhile, the Kazakhstani undefeated boxer led the Ring Poll from RingTV.com. Golovkin earned 42.58% of votes, while Pacquiao had 27.56% and Floyed Mayweather Jr got 15.90%.
His next fight is scheduled on February 21, 2015. Golovkin will fight against a British boxer Martin Murray in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
