WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto spoke about Kazakhstan’s unbeaten boxer Triple G – Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin, Tengrinews reports citing BoxingScene.com.
Cotto says he is not thinking about fighting Triple G in the near future. “Golovkin is a great fighter, a great champion. But let’s wait and see what happens for next year. Everything in negotiations right now,” Cotto said.
He said that discussing the fight with Golovkin was premature, since he was negotiating fights with other boxers, such as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. But this one is also far from being finalized.
Cotto’s trainer Freddie Roach previously said he could not see the Golovkin-Cotto fight as financially viable. He added that Golovkin needed better promotion.
On his part, Golovkin said: “I like how Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto fights. He’s a great and a worthy champion.”
