Undefeated WBA (Super), IBO and WBC (Interim) middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin from Kazakhstan has been named the Fighter of the Year by Boxingnews24.
The boxing portal named Golovkin’s fights in 2014 more entertaining than fights of Terence Crawford. The unbeaten Kazakhstani boxer obliterated Osumanu Adama, Daniel Geale and Marco Antonio Rubio before the final round.
Despite the fact that Triple G does not have a large fan base like Manny Pacquiao and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the boxer wins hearts with his exciting performance in the ring.
Columnist from SouthCoastToday Bob Hanna included Golovkin in his top 10 pound-for-pound fighters. Hanna criticized the Ring magazine for leaving Golovkin out of the pound-for-pound fighters list or rating him too low. Golovkin,“the hit man from Kazakhstan has been terrorizing the middleweight division” according to Hanna, occupies the third place in the rating. Floyd Mayweather and Andre Ward landed on the first and the second places respectively.
Meanwhile, Golovkin is preparing for his first fight in 2015 again Martin Murray. The fight is scheduled on February 21 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
