FC Shakhter of Karaganda has booked its first-ever appearance in the UEFA Champion League play-offs winning over Albanian Skenderbeu club by total points of two matches, Vesti.kz reports. The Kazakhstan club failed to win over Skenderbeu, Albania's best football club, in the second-leg match of the 3rd round held on August 6 in Tirana, Albania. The match ended with the score of 2:3. Shakhter club's forward Sergei Khizhnichenko (38th minute) and midfielder Maksat Baizhanov (67th minute) scored goals during the match, and midfielders Zeljko Tomic (9th minute) Blendi Shkembi (20th and 29th minutes) from the rival team scored winning goals. However, the two-time champion of Kazakhstan beat the Albanian club in the first-leg match, held on July 30 at the Astana-Arena stadium in Astana city, with the score of 3:0. Defender Aldin Didic (7th minute) and forwards Roman Murtazayev (78th minute) and Sergei Khizhnichenko (90th minute) were those who scored the goals. Karaganda’s FC Shakhter with 5-3 aggregate success against Albanian Skenderbeu reached the play-off of the Euro Cups for the first time in Kazakhstan football history. If the team coached by Victor Kumykov doesn't make it into the UEFA Champion League play-off, then they will enter the UEFA Europe League play-off.
