Five athletes from Western Kazakhstan oblast qualified for London Olympics

Five athletes from Western Kazakhstan oblast have qualified for the 2012 Summer London Olympic Games, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the press-service of the Akim (Governor) of the Oblast. Taymuraz Tigiyev and Abdulkhakim Shapiyev (free style wrestling), Aleksey Dergunov (rowing and canoeing), Georgy Sheiko (track-and-field athletics) and Daniyal Gadzhiyev (Greco-Roman wrestling) will represent Kazakhstan national team in the London Olympic Games this summer. It is expected that Anastassiya Bannova (archery) and Grigoriy Feklistov (boat racing) will gain two more spots for the Games in the forthcoming competitions. According to Western Kazakhstan oblast Akim’s press-office free style wrestlers are training in a special camp prior to the forthcoming tournament in the Russian city of Kislovodsk. The Free Style Wrestling World Cup will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in May, 2012. Aleksey Dergunov is training in Belorussia now and Daniyal Gadzhiyev - in Almaty. The track-and-field athlete Sheiko is also in Almaty now. He is getting trained for 50 km Race Walk World Cup that will be held in Russian Saransk on May 12-13. “We have allocated funds for monthly payments of different levels for all the Olympic candidates. We prioritize provision of housing. Silver prize-winner of the Beijing Summer Olympic Games Taymuraz Tigiyev (free style wrestling) and bronze prize-winner of 2010 Free style Wrestling World Championship Abdulkhakim Shapiyev have got the housing for their victories already,” the press-office added.
