Kazakhstani tennis players Yaroslava Shvedova and Zarina Diyas brought victory to the Kazakhstan team with 2:1 against China at the Federation Cup, Tengrinews reports.
Kazakhstan’s number one tennis player Diyas won Shuai Zhang with 7:5, 6:0, while Shvedova was victorious in all three sets against Qiang Wang 4:6, 6:4, 6:3. In the third round, Yuliya Putnitseva and Kamilla Kerimbayeva lost to Shuai Peng and Saisai Zheng (6:1, 7:5). Kazakhstan won the Chinese team with the score of 2:1.
In the next round of the Group I Asia/Oceania Kazakhstan won the team from Chinese Taipei 3:0. Shvedova completed the first round against Yung-Jan Chan with a victory (6:1, 6:1). In the following round, Diyas won Su-Wei Hsien 6:4, 2:6, 7:5. In the final third round, Putnitseva and Kerimbayeva defeated Ya-Hsuan Lee and Hao-Ching Chang (6:0, 6:1).
Earlier, Diyas and Shvedova competed at the Australia Open. Diyas faced Mariya Sharapova in the third round. The Kazakhstani tennis player lost to the World's No.2, but retained her WTA ranking. This year, Zarina aims to enter the TOP 20 of the WTA. Shvedova did not make it to the fourth round of the Australia Open. She lost to Shuai Peng from China (7:6, (7), 6:3). In Doubles, Shvedova along with the Spanish tennis player Anabel Medina Garrigues lost to Kiki Bertens (Netherlands) and Johanna Larsson (Sweden).
