Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan, the contender for the WBC title, has on numerous occasions declared his wish to unify all the middleweight titles. This includes the WBC title held by a Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto. But Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler believes that Cotto would rather give up his title than fight Golovkin, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

"Gennady is ready and willing to fight Cotto in a unification fight if Cotto has no big name dance partner. It would sell out Madison Square Garden," Loeffler told Thesweetscience.com.

"Cotto knows Gennady is his mandatory, and the WBC will enforce the mandatory after this next fight. I am sure Cotto will want one more payday before vacating the title, instead of fighting Triple G, nobody seriously thinks he will fight Gennady at 160."

Even if Cotto vacates his WBC title, Golovkin will have to fight against either WBC’s number 2 David Lemieuz (33-2, KOs 31) or WBC’s third strongest fighter Jorge Sebastian Heiland (25-4-2, KOs 13).

Meanwhile, Golovkin is focusing on his preparation for the fight against Martin Murray (29-1-1, KOs 12) on February 21 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
