Kazakhstan boxer Gennady Golovkin became the only WBA middleweight title holder, Vesti.kz reports. The 30-y.o. Kazakhstan boxer became the only champion after the World Boxing Association (WBA) made a decision to strip 31-y.o. Australian Daniel Geale of his super champion middleweight title. Instead of defending the title against Golovkin, the Australian boxer preferred to arrange a rematch against his fellow countryman, 37-y.o. Anthony Mundine. It was Geale’s only defeat in his career when Mundine beat him and the referees made a split decision in 2009. “We are grateful to the WBA that they have cleared the situation and declared Gennady the only WBA middleweight champion. Gennady is proud of his WBA and IBO champions belts. He is looking forward to returning to the boxing ring,” Tom Leffler, K2 promoter said.
