Kazakhstan Basketball Club Astana has signed a contract with Andreas Glyniadakis, Euroleague champion, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Vesti.kz. The Greek center player signed a one-year contract with the Kazakhstan club. He played in Greek Euroleague club Olympiacos Piraeus starting from 2009. With Olympiacos, he won the Euroleague and Greek League championships in 2012 playing No. 14. The new Astana legionnaire is 30 years old, 216 centimeter tall and weights 130 kilograms. Glyniadakis has played in eight different teams prior his contract with the Kazakhstan club. He started his professional career with Greek Panathinaikos and he is a part of Greek national basketball team. Moreover, the center player was capped for Seattle Supersonics, Peristeri and AEK Athens. Then he played for Italian League's Virtus Bologna. Later he returned to AEK Athens, then joined Greek League's Maroussi. He was the MVP of the last 16 week 1 in the Eurocup 2008-09 season. Andreas Glyniadakis' average is five points and two rebounds per game. Matteo Boniciolli, Astana Basketball Club head coach, said: “Andreas Glyniadakis is the player we need. He is very ambitious and he has played in Top-teams for a long time. All this, including his excellent physical condition, will help our team in the next season of VTB United League.” It is expected that Glyniadakis will replace American Eric Williams, one of the best VTB United League's center players who left the Kazakhstan team after his debut season in the tournament. Astana team hasn’t extended the contracts with Serbian Goran Cakic and Kazakhstan Yegor Biryullin either. Andreas Glyniadakis became the first player to sign a contract with Astana in the off-season. Astana has also signed a one-year contract with American center player David Simon who is 207 centimeters tall. More new players are expected to join the team in July during a training camp in Slovenia.
