Kazakhstan Barys hockey club preferred to sign a contract with Jon Mirasty rather than with Josh Gratton for a financial reason, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to Ildar Mukhometov, sports director of the club. According to him, the team’s managers liked Mirasty’s specific talent to fight on the ice (Mirasty was nicknamed "Nasty" by both teammates and fans when he played for Chekhov's Vityaz). It is expected that the tough guy will appear on the ice when Kazakhstan team will be playing against potentially “dirty” teams. “We have achieved a principle agreement already. We have sent our contract proposal to him and negotiated everything. Be we can make an official statement that he will be playing for Barys only after we have his signature on the contract. He will start training with the team soon. I think there will be some individual training as well. He needs to catch up with the team. In our opinion Mirasty is preferable to Gratton as a tough guy. Besides, we have the financial side of the deal to taken into account. Purchasing Mirasty was preferable for us, because he turned out to be cheaper than Gratton,” Mukhometov said. Barys sports director also said that the Canadian left winger would join the team straight after the President’s Cup final. Mirasty has played 30 matches for Chekhov's Vityaz but hit the opponents’ gate only twice.
