Astana or Almaty? Fans split over Kairat–Real Madrid Champions League venue

Tengrinews.kz – Almaty club Kairat is set to face Real Madrid on September 30 in the Champions League group stage, but the venue has sparked debate among fans.

After reports emerged that the match could be moved to Astana due to the condition of Almaty’s Central Stadium, Tengrinews asked supporters where they would prefer the game to be played.

Some argued for Astana, saying it would give more people the chance to see Real Madrid and meet European standards. Others insisted that the historic match should stay in Almaty, calling it Kairat’s “home ground” and stressing that the players know the pitch best.

“Of course, it should be played in Almaty. That’s their home field, and it will be easier for the team,” one fan said.

Another added:

“It would be fair if the game stayed in Almaty, but maybe winter matches could be moved.”

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Yerbol Myrzabossynov, confirmed that the match will take place in Almaty and will not be moved to Astana. Ticket sales are expected to start in late September.
