Floyd Mayweather Jr. has picked Andre Ward over Gennady Golovkin, Tengrinews reports. In an interview with MLive.com, Mayweather talked about a possible fighter between Ward and Golovkin.
“Andre Ward is a remarkable fighter. I mean, I think that he signed a deal with a new company. That's a good thing. We are not in the business to take a loss. Andre Ward is one hell of a fighter. But if I’m making a business move I would chose Adrien Broner,” Mayweather said.
Ward has recently signed with Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports after a year hiatus due to legal issues with Goossen Promotions.
“Triple G, I have seen him fight. I have seen him once actually. If he is fighting Andre Ward. Andre Ward hands down. But Triple G is a solid competitor. He likes to engage in battle. Whereas in the past, I got criticized for being a defensive smart fighter. It paid off in a long run,” Mayweather said.
No actual talks about a possible Golovkin-Ward fight have taken place yet. Meanwhile, Golovkin is facing Willie Monroe Jr on May 16 in California. This is Golovkin’s second fight this year. Earlier in February, Golovkin defeated Martin Murray scoring the 19th consecutive KO in the professional ring.
