WBA, IBO and WBC interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan has been on a winning streak since he began boxing professionally. His most recent fight against Marco Antonio Rubio secured him a WBC interim title and the 31st victory.
Andre Ward, the current WBA (super) and the Ring super middleweight titleholder can, according to Edwin Rodriguez, stop the middleweight boxer with the highest KOs rating.
As the last boxer to face Ward before a yearlong break, Rodriguez stated that the American boxer was The One who could beat Golovkin. However, Ward has not been boxing since 2013 due to legal issues with the promoters.
“Ward has that style that’s very difficult to find answers to, and by the time you do figure it out, it’s too late. I think that would be a real good fight because Golovkin does bring that kind of power where Was has to be aware the whoel fight. But I think Wad has the style to be able to neutralize Golovkin’s power and outbox him in a twelve round decision,” Rodriguez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
But in a fight against Golovkin, no boxer was able to hold on to hear the final ring gong since 2008.
Earlier, Ward said that if there were a fight against Golovkin he would take it.
Golovkin’s next fight is scheduled to February 2015 in Monte Carlo.
