Management of Kazakhstan basketball club Astana signed a contract with American guard Jerry Johnson, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the club’s press-service. The guard signed an agreement with Astana for one year. Earlier Johnson played for Galatasaray (Turkey), Lietuvos Rytas (Lithuania), Charleroi (Belgium) and Clermont (France). The last team he played for was in Turkey, where he got into the finals of Turkish Championship gaining an average of 12 scores per game. Matteo Bonichioli from Italy was appointed a chief coach of Astana on April 29 this yaer. “The main reason is that I love challenges and Astana team is a big challenge for me as there is an opportunity to create a great club,” he explained his decision to work with Kazakhstan team. The Astana team is a new twirle in Kazalhstan's basketball development. According to Astana Department of Tourism, Physical Culture and Sports, Bonichioli’s team will represent Kazakhstan in VTB United League.
