Three major paragliding tournaments will be held in Almaty in August: CIS Cup, a round of Russian Championship and Kazakhstan Championship. Kazakhstan sportsmen are the main candidates for the awards, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan's Federation of Airsports. According to the Federation, Almaty will welcome around one hundred sportsmen from Russia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine, including champions and prizewinners of world championships. Registration of participants is currently underway. The tournament in Kazakhstan will be held under the aegis of the International Aeronautical Federation. Paragliding is a hybrid of sky jumping and hang gliding. Paragliders compete for the best speed of covering distances. Despite of the formal resemblance with parachute, paraplane is more similar to hang glider by its aerodynamic characteristics and with good weather conditions paragliders can fly for hours. Paragliding has its own feature: men have no advantages over women. Oksana Vorontsova won the last year Kazakhstan Championship. This season she is planning to improve her results and take part in the CIS Cup. Current CIS champion is another Kazakhstan sportsman Igor Kulchev.
