New cycle lanes will be built for cyclists in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the Public Transport and Automobile Roads Administration. The Administration has developed eight roadway construction projects for Alatau region of the city. The designs include cycle lanes. The city authorities have already started road construction on Momyshuly, Akyn Sara and Ryskulov Streets this year. The bicycle lanes are expected to become available there soon. “Together with an initiative group of cyclists were are also considering placing bikeways along the existing pedestrian ways in places,” the Department said. The city authorities spent more than 400 million dollars on road construction in 2011. They've started construction of six new traffic interchanges: at the crossing of Kuldzhinskiy Highway and Khaliullin Street, Raimbek and Momyshuly Streets, Al-Farabi and Gagarin Streets, Al-Farabi and Mustafin Streets, Sain and Toraygyrov Streets, Sain and Zhubanov Streets. Besides, they've started works to continue several of the major streets to the Eastern Bypass Road.
