Akim (Governor) of Pavlodar oblast awarded Kazakhstan participants of the 2012 Summer London Olympic Games, Tengrinews.kz reports. Six Pavlodar oblast residents who participated in the Games along with their coaches got Honorary Diplomas, medals For Service to the Oblast and money prizes amounting to 300-400 thousand tenge (about $2000-2700) each. They are track-and-field athletes Tatyana Azarova, Roman Valiyev, Sergey Zaykov and Aleksandra Fisher, wrestler Daulet Shabanbay and shooter Vyacheslav Podlesny. “We were cheering for you. Perhaps, you were off a bit of luck. However we are very glad in any case. I am sure that it is a great achievement to be part of the national Olympic team and to be among the top hundred athletes. But you should strive for higher results. The President has set a strategic task (for the Oblast) to train and make sure that at least 10-12 athletes (from the Oblast) are part of the national Olympic team. That’s why we don’t have much time. Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games will be held four years from now. We should train intensively,” Akim (Governor) of Pavlodar oblast Yerlan Aryn said at the awarding ceremony. The Governor of the oblast also added that the authorities will allocate about 15 billion tenge ($101,350) for development of sports in the region. “These funds will be allocated for construction of new big sports sites, in particular a large facility called Pavlodar Sports City. We will also improve the equipment of the existing sports schools and will invite leading coaches, including foreign ones and will fund athletes’ trainings,” Aryn said.
