Gennady Golovkin’s coach Abel Sanchez is doubtful of Andre Ward’s marketability, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

In the beginning of 2014, Golovkin said that he wanted to fight Ward. Talks about the Golovkin-Ward fight have been circulating in the media for quite a while, but the fight has not been negotiated yet. Meanwhile, Ward in response to his fans’ questions and insinuations concerning the possible fight against the Kazakhstani boxer said that he wanted and was ready to fight Golovkin.

“As for Ward, he has a situation with his promoter that is keeping him idle. But if a fight with Gennady could be discussed, the fact is that Andre is on an island with the belief that he can demand terms. That makes it un-makeable and un-workable when he wants the major portion of the money,” Sanchez said.

Ward has not had fights for a long time partially due to a successful surgery in January of 2013. His last fight was against Edwin Rodriguez in November.

“Ward may have won the Super Six but has done nothing since, in fights or in publicity, to enhance his marketability. The fact is that he can’t sell tickets at home or when he fought Rodriguez. Ward’s style and manner does not do well with the market as it is today,” Golovkin’s trainer added.

According to Sanchez, Golovkin continues to grow as a fighter and is getting closer to the greatest fighters in boxing step by step.

Golovkin’s last fight took place on July 26 at Madison Square Garden. He defended his WBA title against Australian Daniele Geale and crushed the former champion in the third round. This marked Golovkin’s 30th fight and victory in the professional ring.
