Vincenzo Nibali, the captain of Kazakhstan's Astana Pro Team celebrates the victory in Tre Valli Varesine race, Tengrinews reports.
Nibali covered the 198.5 km distance in 4 hours 44 minutes and 9 seconds. Sergey Firsanov from RusVelo followed only 8 seconds behind him and took the second place in the race. Trek Factory Racing's Giacomo Nizzolo arrived third.
"The guys did a great job today, especially Fabio Aru, without them I wouldn’t have won. I was tired after the flight and because of the jet lag. I started and even thought of climbing off but I felt good and things worked out. I have to thank my teammates for this win," Nibali said via Cyclingnews.com.
Nibali also got the second place at the Coppa Ugo Agostoni and won the Coppa Bernocchi race. His victory at the Tre Valli Varesine made Vincenzo Nibali the winner of the entire Trittico Lombardia, a three race competition.
Trittico Lombardia includes three cycling races - Tre Valli Varesine, Coppa Ugo Agostoni and Coppa Bernocchi - held in the Lombardy region in three consecutive days. The cyclist that scores the best overall result wins the cycling competition.
