A Kazakhstani runner from Ridder town Irina Smolnikova has won the Moscow International Marathon among women for the second time, Tengrinews reports citing 1720.kz.

The Moscow Marathon kicked off on September 21st with a slogan - From Dream to Reality. More than 12 thousand professional and amateur runners participated in the second marathon. In 2013, according to Ria Novosti, only 2366 runners participated in the marathon that has tremendously grown in one year. 

In 2013, Irina ran 42 km 195 m in 2 hours, 44 minutes and 54 seconds and set a record of the marathon among women. She crossed the finish line 13th, but was the 1st among women.

On Sunday, September 21, the runner from Ridder broke her own record and covered the same distance in 2 hours, 40 minutes and 22 seconds.

Oxana Akimenkova from Russia came second (2:43.29) and Lyubov Denisova from the U.S. was third (2:44.41). Solomon Kibet Barngetuni from Kenya won the marathon among men with 2:17.24.

Irina Smolnikova has been participating in marathons for a long time. She also holds a title of the Asian Champion among juniors.
