Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh gymnast Nariman Kurbanov won a silver medal. This is the first medal in the history of Kazakhstan won in artistic gymnastics.
The athlete successfully performed in the final of the horse exercises. He received 15.433 points for his programme, which earned him second place.
Ireland's Rhys McClenaghan was first with 15.533. Stephen Nedoroscik of the USA took bronze with 15.300.
Kurbanov participated in the Olympic Games for the first time. His medal was the first in the history of Kazakhstan won in artistic gymnastics.
Nariman Kurbanov commented on his victory.
"I think my thoughts will be confused right now," he said with a smile. "I just turned off my brain and went all the way. I've been doing this combination on autopilot for many years. And finally, I was able to go out and execute it from start to finish,” he said.
Kurbanov noted that in the current Olympic cycle he often fell at the end of the programme because he gave up psychologically and did not finish the job.
"I used all the experience and performed first, which helped me to avoid the pressure from my rivals' scores. So I did my thing and the others followed me," explained the Kazakhstani.
He said he started dreaming of an Olympic medal at the age of 18.
He said he is very happy and knows "exactly how this medal will be perceived in our country and how much emotion it will arouse".
Previously, two boxing medals were guaranteed to Kazakhstan by Nurbek Oralbay, competing in the under-80 kilogram weight class and Nazym Kyzaibay in the women's 50 kg weight category.
