Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh boxer Nurbek Oralbay, competing in the under-80 kilogram weight class, has advanced to the semifinals of the Paris Olympics, securing Kazakhstan's first medal in boxing at the Games.

In the quarterfinals, Oralbay faced Azerbaijani boxer Murad Allahverdiyev, defeating him with a unanimous score of 5-0.

In the semifinal match, Kazakh boxer faced Dominican Christian Javier Pinales. Judges awarded Oralbay a narrow advantage in all three rounds, with a score of 3:2 in favor of Oralbay.

For the gold medal at the Olympics, Nurbek will compete against the winner of the bout between Oleksandr Khyzhniak (Ukraine) and Arlen Lopez (Cuba).

Reaching the semifinals guarantees Oralbay a medal, as there are no third-place bouts in Olympic boxing (two bronze medals are awarded).

This is Kazakhstan's first boxing medal at the Paris Olympics.
