Tengrinews.kz – Today, September 4, the Kazakhstan national football team will play its fourth match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Wales.

The opposing squad includes several English Premier League stars who may take the field at Astana Arena.

Among the most notable are Tottenham Hotspur right winger Brennan Johnson and Nottingham Forest left-back Neco Williams.

The combined market value of just these two players exceeds the entire Kazakhstan squad's value by four times — €40 million + €20 million vs. €14.85 million.

Who is Wales’ main star

24-year-old Brennan Johnson, a Nottingham Forest academy graduate, transferred to Tottenham Hotspur for €55 million in September 2023. Last season, he helped the club win its first European trophy in 50 years — the UEFA Europa League.

Johnson has played for the Wales national team since 2020, scoring 6 goals in 37 appearances, and is considered one of the squad's key players.

Kairat hero and new faces: Kazakhstan’s hopes

Following Kairat’s triumphant victory over Celtic, several players from the Almaty club have joined the Kazakhstan squad for the qualifiers, including Dastan Satpayev, Temirlan Anarbekov, and Damir Kasabulat.

If Anarbekov or Kasabulat take the field, it will mark their debut for the national team.

All eyes are especially on goalkeeper Temirlan Anarbekov, with fans eagerly awaiting his first national appearance after the “miracle at Central Stadium,” where he saved three penalties in the shootout against Celtic.

Judging by the number of his followers on social media, Temirlan is currently the most popular player among those called up for the matches against Wales and Belgium.
