Tengrinews.kz - Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Education and Science may be split into two separate entities, according to local media reports.
At the Third People's Kurultai in Bishkek, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Shakiev proposed dividing the Ministry of Education and Science into the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Education.
Shakiev emphasized that the current ministry handles an overly broad scope of responsibilities—from preschool to higher education, as well as scientific research. He believes this reorganization would enhance the quality of education and allow a more focused approach to each educational level.
According to Shakiev, the President of Kyrgyzstan supports the initiative, and the establishment of two new educational bodies is planned by 2025.
Shakiev also highlighted the need to elevate the status of teachers and prioritize the educational system.
"Kyrgyzstan must build an educated society, an educated nation, and an educated country. Without education, our society will not be able to secure a prosperous future. Developed countries around the world clearly demonstrate this. Despite lacking natural resources, they dominate through human resources, science, and technology," said the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh.
As a reminder, in Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Education was divided in 2022 into the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Education. This decision by the President of Kazakhstan was aimed at the comprehensive development of Kazakhstani science, enhancing its competitiveness, and increasing its contribution to the country's sustainable socio-economic progress.
