Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center has paid a full compensation for the delay of KazSat-2 launch, Talgat Mussabayev, Head of KazKosmos [Kazakhstan's National Space Agency], said during an on-line conference arranged by Bnews.kz . KazSat 2 is a Kazakh communication satellite, features 12 Ku-band transponders for fixed communications and 4 Ku-band transponders for TV-transmissions and is intended for telecast, fixed satellite communication and data transmission for Kazakhstan and Central Asia. It was to supplement the KazSat 1 satellite, but will now replace Kazsat 1 due to the complete loss of the first satellite. “I won’t disclose the exact figures. Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center (…) has already paid the compensation in full”, Talgat Mussabayev said. The launch of KazSat-2 telecommunications satellite from Baikonur has been postponed to June 9, 2011. Initially it was to be launched march 30, 2011. Talgat Mussabayev is a Kazakh test pilot and former cosmonaut who flew on three spaceflights. His first two spaceflights were long-duration stays aboard the Russian space station Mir. His third spaceflight was a short duration visiting mission to the International Space Station, which also carried the first paying space tourist Dennis Tito.
